calls for it. Poet and musician Natasha Tiniacos, on Moog Grandmother synthesizer, serves as a kind of conductor for the piece, allowing for pauses, silences, and swells, creating a dialogue with the audience s voices as they rise and recede. The collective reading will be a composition built from listening as much as from the poetry itself. The People’s Poetry Gathering is co-presented by City Lore, Bowery Poetry, and Poets House. Founded as a biennial event in 1999 by City Lore and Poets House, with Bowery Poetry joining soon after, The People’s Poetry Gathering assembles poets from New York City and beyond to pursue discourse, exchange, and cultural preservation through poetry. In 2026, the Gathering returns to Lower Manhattan for the first time in twenty years. About the Collective Como un lugar is a New York–based organization of immigrant artists and public scholars that promotes Latinx and Latin American poetry in NYC. We are committed to creating accessible, culturally relevant spaces for our communities to gather, create, and experience carefully curated poetic performances. Since 2021, we have organized our annual Fiesta de la Poesía, an international poetry festival bringing together poetry, music, and performance from Latin American and Latinx artists. As part of our programming, we host Problemas de Identidad, a multilingual translation series, and workshops exploring the intersections between poetry and other forms of creative expression. We are also a small press, with a catalog focused on poetry and cross-genre works.
