the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, a defining moment in Hungarian history. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the participation of a remarkable historian as moderator, the director of the documentary, and two witnesses of the Revolution and members of the Hungarian diaspora community in the United States. About the documentary: The 2007 documentary film encompasses the tense Cold War era (1945–1991) and presents the rivalry of the superpowers during that time. It shows the 1956 Hungarian Revolution as the first catalyst for the future decline of the communist system, and as a remarkable turning point for the advancement of democracy. The eight-time award-winning movie was an Oscar contender in "Best Documentary" and was selected by five Academy Award-qualifying festivals. We look forward to sharing this special commemoration with our audience and to welcoming you for an evening of reflection honoring the victims, the witnesses, and the living memory of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
