Sean-nós Singing Classes - Beginners
In this 7-week course taught by Irish-American traditional singer Madelyn Monaghan, students will learn the Irish traditional style of singing, sean-nós (old style). The class will include a basic introduction to the sounds and features of the Irish language as well as aspects of vocal technique like ornamentation.

Each week, the class will learn a new song in Irish and also discuss its origin, translation, deeper meanings, and historical context. These songs are such a vital part of the Irish culture, and a wonderful gateway for learning the language. Note: No previous singing experience or proficiency with the Irish language is required! This is a beginner course, and all levels are welcome. The class will meet in-person at the NYIC.
