RSVP required for Zoom link. Established after 1869 by the Union Pacific Railroad, Wyoming’s Evanston and Rock Springs Chinatowns were home to Chinese immigrant laborers who faced intense anti-Chinese sentiment—culminating in the tragic Rock Springs Massacre of 1885. Join us for a talk by Dr. Laura Ng on her collaborative archaeological work with Dr. Dudley Gardner and Chinese American descendants. Discover how tangible artifacts and community-led research bring to light long-silenced histories of transpacific migration, labor, and racial exclusion. Laura W. Ng is a historical archaeologist with a research focus on the archaeology of Asian American communities. She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from Stanford University and is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Grinnell College in Iowa. Dr. Ng is currently conducting transpacific archaeological research on the Rock Springs and Evanston Chinatowns in Wyoming, which is funded by Grinnell College, the Frison Institute, and the Far Western Foundation. If you miss this talk, the video and podcast will be available online the following week. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend, and we look forward to sharing our latest lecture with you!
