Weird Wednesday: Remember My Name

Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn

“You can’t tear out my soul, ‘cause I’ve already done that myself”

The only thing that truly strikes fear in the hearts of men: the past, and when it comes, no one is left unscathed. Freshly out of prison, an unhinged woman, steely-eyed, and manic, with a score to settle wreaks havoc on the life of her former husband (Anthony Perkins). Is it single-minded vengeance, obsession, or something more? An engrossing character study simmering in the rage of a woman over the edge, part melodrama, part noir - this Robert Altman-produced mood piece is as bluesy as its evocative score. Its haunting memory will linger long after its conclusion. Featuring an imitable leading performance by the often-praised, yet little-known, Geraldine Chaplin, this scarcely revived chiller, from director Alan Rudolph, is as beguiling as the twitchy smile of its protagonist. Her name is Emily, and you won’t soon forget her. (Jazmyne Moreno)

35mm print courtesy of Sony Pictures Repertory.
